Hi All
Missing the craic?? Sitting at home, bored every night??
Thought you would be having a rest???
Sorry to disappoint you!
It's ShowTime Again!!!
First of all... For those of you who have not seen it, we had an excellent AIMS adjudication. Very positive indeed.
Here are some excerpts...
'The overture was extraordinarily good, with excellent crisp rhythms and wonderful tone from trombone, saxes, violin and trumpet. The bass guitar and percussion too played with great musicianship. Wilson led from the keyboard.
CHORUS I liked the energy of the dancers and the singing of the chorus. Great singing with very good blend. 'Careless with the Truth' and 'Black Hills' were particularly good. Smaller ensembles were great; 'It's Harry I'm Planning to Marry' was extraordinarily good.
CALAMITY (Heather Dunlop) Heather is a great addition to musical theatre. She has great energy and presence. Neither of these attributes conceals her vocal talent. Her singing was startlingly good; every note placed right in the middle and always musical with wonderful phrasing. She relates very well to others and brings a touching reality to her performance. Her 'A Woman's touch' and 'My Secret Love', with contrasting styles, revealed a very fine player and singer. When she sang the reprise of 'Secret Love', I was transported; it was so touching.
And yet she didn't steal the show from so many other fine performers.
LIEUTENANT (David Rice) Looked, played and sang well. He had a very pleasant naiveté
in regard to Katie and repulsed Calamity's advances like a gentleman. His voice is
pleasant and tuneful.
KATIE (Kerri Quinn) This was a lovely performance, indicating appropriate contrasts
in her personal confidence. A very good team player, she danced and sang with great
aplomb. She gave a terrific performance of her big number at the end of Act I.
HENRY MILLAR (Victor Berry) A very well considered performance. This actor was a person not a type. He was understanding and thoughtless, as needed. A very good centre for the happenings in the Golden Garter.
SUSAN (Karen Hawthorne) A very good presence, with a very fine personal energy. A very fine dancer.
FRANCIS FRYER (Bliain Fitzpatrick) Very nicely judged performance. A very good sense of humour, he developed and maintained very attractive and amusing characteristics. His costume was terrific. He used his voice very well.
ADELAIDE A very experienced actor, well able to dominate where needed. She was dressed beautifully. She demonstrated a very good sense of humour and her singing of 'It's Harry' had real authority and great musicality.
DIRECTION/CHOREOGRAPHY (Peter Kennedy) The choreography had great excitement and kept the show moving. The energy of the performers was harnessed to great effect. The principal players had very good variety of performance, and lots of the fun of the show was realised.
I thoroughly enjoyed the show (it's great to hear the great choruses well sung!) and
was made very welcome. Thanks, Ulster, very much.'
