Monday
Committee Meeting
Another very productive committee meeting was held. We discussed all the usual business… set, costumes, sound/lights, advertisement and publicity. These are all coming along nicely!
The publishing team brought along the flyers and posters that they had designed and printed. Everyone thought they looked great especially Olive! Gareth had been busy doing test prints of the tickets… these are going to be full colour too!! We reckon that is a first!
But there is still much work to be done. The publishing team have already started creating the programme and want to get this finalised before the end of the month to ensure sufficient time for printing. Again, the programme will be full colour throughout and will follow the ‘Western’ theme that was used for the flyers/posters.
Selling this Show is a huge priority and a detailed list of potential advertising avenues was drawn up and actions will be allocated at the next meeting. We ask all the Cast to do their bit in selling tickets as well. We have great prizes to be won for those who sell the most!
Tuesday
Word was received from the Professor that one of his experiments had gone badly wrong. Apparently he was test driving an unfamiliar mode of transport (a bicycle) and managed to become a crash test dummy. Over the handlebars and onto the road. Reports from Casualty confirmed that numerous cuts and bruises in addition to cracked teeth were suffered. The Writing Team think that the Professor is taking it a bit far in trying to get out the various lifts in the Show!
Thursday
No rehearsals with Peter this week but a music rehearsal with Wilson. Wilson started off with Principals… Calamity and Katie, then Danny Gilmartin and finally Adelaide Adams. All sounded great!
Chorus were called for 9 but they are so keen that they started arriving around 8.30 pm. We started off with singing through ‘Windy City’ and ‘Deadwood Stage’. We then moved on to ‘Careless with the Truth’. ‘Black Hills of Dakota’ was suggested but Wilson didn’t fancy it at all!
Then it was onto the Dancing… Ditanya was otherwise engaged so Helen Smyth took charge. Helen does not like shouting so the PM offered to do that for her while she went over the dance steps. A great job she did too!!
We danced through ‘Deadwood Stage’ and ‘Windy City’. The tap in ‘Windy City’ is coming on really well… at least for the girls. Sorry guys… more practice needed! In the absence of the Professor, Andy decided that he would do one of the lifts in ‘Windy City’. He chose Ande Gray as his partner… unfortunately Ande did not know this was going to happen until he was 6 feet up in the air in a spreadeagled position. We think Ande was more concerned about this hair being wrecked than anything else! Speaking of Ande’s hair… it was not quite as bushy as usual. This was due to lack of product being applied! He also informed the Writing Team that he is going for a trim very soon!
We finished up around 10.15 and the usual team went across the road to the Pub. Topics of discussion included…
How big is it??? No we are not talking about Wee Matt again but rather the ‘For Sale’ sign on our rehearsal premises. The sign stated that 0.16 acres was for sale so discussion took place as to the size of this piece of real estate.
The Panto
DVD night was talked about with who was going and who wasn’t. We shall bring you all the highlights of this in our next entry!
Colours, Dreams and Star Signs… Andy was asking about whether painting his bedroom ‘chocolate’ had any deeper significance and talk then ensued about getting your colour chart done. Andy has already had this… and guess what? Pink is one of his colours!!
Dreams were talked about next and whether these too hold any deeper meaning. All we can say is that hospitals were mentioned!
Star signs up next with the PM asking Andy how he was so good at
DIY since he is a Sagittarian. Sags are usually quite clumsy and not good at
DIY at all. Andy replied that he was not that great at
DIY at all. He tried a little bit of re-wiring while decorating his bedroom. The upshot is that if you turn on the light in his bedroom then none of the other lights work upstairs! Just beware when you visit the facilities during the Panto
DVD night. You may be left in total darkness so make sure your aim is true… or else bring a torch!
Paddy’s phone bill… Paddy and Wee Matt are off to Prague for a romantic few days next week. The boys are looking forward to sampling all the delights on offer. The beer is supposed to be great and very cheap too. Wee Matt is especially looking forward to meeting some of the locals. Apparently he is going to approach some of them and say.. ‘I want you and you and also bring along your big mate’! We are not quite sure what Matt is alluding too but we understand this will all be said in German a la his New York trip with Paddy and Ande.
The Writing Team think that Paddy’s phone bill will be astronomical with all the texts and calls flying back to Bangor. He has been assured though that Karen will be in safe hands when he is away! By whom we wonder?? Andy has volunteered and no doubt Peter will offer his services!
Paddy has an early start after the
DVD night as he has to be at the airport for 6.45 am the next morning. But sure… he will be still up partying at that point! At least we are sure Wendy will be so she can ensure that Paddy gets away safely and on time.
Andy’s Dublin trip… Andy decided to give the Fun Bus a trial run by going to Dublin to see the rugby last weekend. The match had an early kick-off so the drink was in early. Much drink was taken during the day… so much that his travelling companion was in bed by 7 pm fast asleep! Sounds quite familiar to those who were on the last Waterford outing! Aren’t old slippers great!
The Writing Team observed Wee Matt and Wendy getting on famously. No doubt Matt was trying out some of his chat up lines prior to Prague! Wee Matt may be wee but Wendy is wee’er still. That is.. when she takes her heels off! We think they are a lovely pair!
So that is all the craic for this week… Next week we will have all the details of the
DVD night and also rehearsals with Peter on Tuesday and Wednesday.
